I am beyond excited for the 2017 Wedding Season! 2016 was fully of so many amazing couples. I say it very often but it still holds true: I am so lucky to do what I love every single day. My clients are fantastic and I have also met so many wonderful people through out my journey. There are so many talented Maryland wedding photographers (and Virginia Wedding Photographers!) that I am lucky to call friends. We learn from each other, help each other and grow together. You would think it would be a hard think to do but I’ve found that when you find your people, loving on them is easy.
I always make a list of personal goals at the start of the New Year but this time I want to make a list of business goals. Some I hope to cross off the list early on and others I know I will have to work harder at. If you are a friend reading this make sure to hold me accountable!
I shot my first roll of film about 5 years ago. There is something about this quality and character of film that is unmatched by digital in my opinion. I want to push myself to experiment with different types of film in different types of lighting.
Okay this one definitely falls under personal but hear me out! Having my family photographed is mostly for me but also for my clients. As a professional I need to know what it feels like to be in front of the camera.
Last year I traveled quite a bit! We went to Iceland, Puerto Rico and Nashville! This year I want my traveling to be more intentional. I live so close to Washington D.C. and I can’t remember the last time I walked around the city to view the monuments or tour the museums! On east coast list this year is D.C., New York and South Carolina! Now if Iceland Air has a really great deal then I might just take them up on that offer…
Sometimes when I say “I want to be published.” I think I sound selfish and you know what- it totally is! In the best way possible! Wedding vendors all work hard together to make sure our couples have the best wedding day. Every time I get a thank you email from a couple I’m brought to tears. I helped make their day special. Getting published is just the cherry on top. It is industry recognition that says “Hey you did a good job.”
Setting up inspiration shoots for myself is the best way to experiment, practice and grow. It allows me to be creative and test out what works and doesn’t work so I am 200% ready on wedding days!
That’s it for now! As I go completing these goals I’ll have to make sure I come back and post little updates! 🙂 Have you set any business or personal goals this year? If not what are you waiting for!? Hop to it!
